About Office Chair Controls

Nowadays, various kinds and styles of office chairs are available in market to fit the different needs of the modern people. However, despite the differences, most office chairs are all the same in one point. That is, they usually come with many office chair controls to make adjustments to the ergonomic features and support systems.

Now, let’s dig deep into the office chair controls and see what functions they can achieve.

Office Chair Controls

1. Functions of Office Chair Controls

Office chair controls can be classified into TG, STG, KTG, etc. in terms of function.

(1) TG: fixed mechanismwith basic tilt + pneumatic rod, with the functions:

  • lift + tilt + single lock

(2) KTG: Front tilting control+ pneumatic rod (inner hexagon spring steel), with the functions:

  • lifting + tilting + single lock, with two handles

(3) STG: stepless synchronous tilting control+ pneumatic rod, with the functions:

  • lifting + tilting + five-segment locking, simple STG such as split plate

2. The development of Office Chair Controls

(1) In the beginning, the prototype of the control was just a fixed mechanism, which can simply use to support the body.

(2) As the technology upgrades and develops, the office chair controls have changed from the original fixed mechanism to a tiltable control (TG).

The TG office chair control is the most basic mechanism. It has the basic tilting function, but the pivoting support point for tilting is in the middle of the seat cushion. Then, the tilting thigh muscles are easily compressed. So it’s not an ideal institution.

(3) KTG office chair control is a cantilever tilting mechanism, which is called Knee tilt. The pivotal support point is moved to the knee when tilting, thereby greatly reducing the pressure on the thigh muscles. However, the seat and back cushions of the chair are tilted synchronously with the angle of seat back cushion fixed. Therefore, the sitting posture of the human body is relatively fixed, and the human body’s groin cannot be stretched when tilted. Later on, a kind of STG organization have been developed to solve those problems.

(4) The STG office chair control is a stepless (usually five-stage) synchro tilt mechanism, which is called Synchronous tilt. This office chair control can well solve the shortcomings of TG and KTG-type institutions. Sitting on a chair, one can make various parts of the body stretch well through certain mediation, which can release people’s fatigue when sitting and working.

In terms of tilting results, there are 3 types of tilt mechanisms : back tilt mechanismsseat tilt mechanisms, and synchro tilt mechanisms

3. The differences between KTG and STG Office Chair Controls

Both of these two office chair controls have the feature of synchronous tilting. The only difference lies in the STG being able to be locked in sections. And it can be locked as the user wants within the tilt angle range. It is a stepless or fixed-angle locking. KTG does not have this function.

4. The characteristics of the synchronous office chair controls

(1) The synchronous tilting is a highly user-friendly and conceptual function, which has broken through the uncomfortable design of the previous tilting mechanism for the long-time sitting. The chair seat is completely adapted to the human body’s tilting action, bringing it to the user synchronized health and comfort.

(2) When the general seat is tilted back, both feet will be tilted up at the same time with the feet hanging in the air. Thus, the legs will generate downward pressure, causing poor blood circulation in the legs and tightening the thigh muscles.

(3) Synchro office chair controls: The seat and back of the chair work at the same time at an angle of 1 : 2 : 5. When a chair is tilted back, its seat will rise slightly. The user only needs to put his feet on it gently, then the tired body can be stretched arbitrarily. Besides, it also can prevent the clothes from being pulled up on the back.

5. Parts connected to the Office Chair Controls

(1) What is the relationship between STG and KTG and other office chair controls?

STG must be a split body, and the back tilt mechanism is also a split body. KTG does not have to be, but the seat back must be at a fixed angle.

(2) What is the setting of L iron?

Office Chair Controls - L iron 1
Office Chair Controls - L iron 2

L iron is the back steel plate. The L iron is set according to the office chair control and the angle of the chair.

(3) The outer tube of the chair gas cylinder with different lengths and tapers are equipped with different office chair controls.

(4) The differences of the gas cylinders and the office chair controls will directly affect the seat height of the chair.

6. Key points of inspection

The design of the office chair controls structure involves expertise in engineering, mechanics, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to observe the product size and spray appearance in the product inspection. What’ s more, t is best to measure the angle and taper of iron parts with special inspection tools, and verify each function (lifting, tilting and gear locking) as shown in the picture below.
